3 yrs. EC-6 ESL General Education Certified Teacher
7 1/2 years Computer Lab Manager
10 1/2 years Campus Technology Facilitator
This is my 3rd year of teaching, although I have worked for McAllen ISD for the past 10 ½ years.
I have been involved with technology for over 15 years, I started at STC as a Computer Specialist where I studied computer networking and repair. After I received 48+ hours I worked for MISD for 7 ½ years as a Computer Lab Manager. In my computer lab I was able to lead my students to become technology enthusiasts. Many times I was chosen to mentor new computer lab managers and assist in helping them bring their computer labs up to the technology expectation of the school district, and beyond, whenever possible.
I have also been involved with technology as a Campus Technology Facilitator. I have served in this capacity for the past 10 ½ years at both of the campuses I have worked at. This enables me to keep up with my networking and troubleshooting skills
As a teacher, I constantly attempt to instill my love for technology into my students and my classroom. I work very hard to run my class as a paperless classroom. At this point even my students give me a hard time when the occasion arises that I must pass out paper (Benchmarks, STAAR reviews from the district, etc.)
In the past I have been chosen to pilot new programs that the district is looking at. For example, I piloted the Bridgit and the KnowItAll apps in my classroom a couple of years ago. It is fun to try new things and a very big honor when I am chosen as one of the ones to pilot the program in my classroom. Even when the district does not ask, I always look for inventive ways to bring technology to my classroom. Upon success of the trial I will bring this experience to the staff and lead them in trying something new.
For the past 10 ½ years I have been a part of the Campus Technology Committee for both of the campuses I have worked at. In the past we were be responsible for writing and updating the Campus Technology Plan. This gave us a chance to see where we are as far as our technology and then make a plan as to where we need to be. We used the Texas Long-Range Technology Plan as well as the STaR Chart to determine our campus needs and try to allocate money to meet our goals. I have also served on the District Technology Committee where we would also view the needs of the district and try to allocate funds to the most needy campuses.
Outside of MISD, I work for ACT-RGV as their Technology Education Teacher. I teach teacher candidates about using technology in the classroom. My specific classes, which I developed for the program, are Technology in the Classroom and Technology Literacy. I am also the webmistress for the ACT-RGV website as well as their CPE course website.
